John used to be the family's child star in the very early years, especially with the hit single "Who'll Come With Me". When he got a bit older his younger brother Paddy took over that part.

John always seemed to be the shy and quiet brother, his songs mostly being romantic ballads.

In 2000 he dropped out of the band after a fall out with his siblings. He retreated to Spain where he married his childhood love Maite Itoiz, a famous opera singer. Two years later John released a statement on his wife's website, talking about the reasons for leaving the band. In short: he disagreed with how the rest of the family saw the band's future. Together with his wife he is once again back on stage with a new project and a new CD "Tales from the Secret Forest" released in 2006.
