Kathy was only 19 years old when her stepmother Barbara Ann died and being the oldest child living with the family at that time she had to take over the mother role for her younger siblings.

For the longest time she was the musical head of the band, producing the albums with their father and later with Paddy.

In 1999 she released a "Best Of Kathy Kelly" album which indicated her plans on starting a solo career. In fact soon after she dropped out of the band, on the one hand to spend more time with her son Sean, and on the other hand to go into a different direction with her music.

Two years later, in 2001, Kathy's first solo album "Morning Of My Life" was released. Since then she worked with different musicians and played many concerts of her own. But every once in a while she still supports her siblings on stage.
